Charter Oak State College has partnered with edX, the nonprofit online learning destination and massive open online courses (MOOC) platform founded by Harvard and MIT, to provide MOOC learners with an opportunity to earn Charter Oak State College credit for work completed in selected edX courses.
Credits earned through specified edX MOOCs will be part of the Special Credit Registry. Charter Oak State College credit only applies to selected edX courses that have been reviewed for college credit through Charter Oak's credit assessment program called the Connecticut Credit Assessment Program (CCAP). See a description of the reviewed edX courses.
EdX learners may use credits accumulated through this process to complete a bachelor's degree at Charter Oak State College, or to meet continuing education, professional certification, or degree requirements at other institutions.
Enrolling in an edX Course and Receiving Credit Through the Charter Oak State College Special Credit Registry
First, complete your eligible course work at edX
You must have visited edX.org and registered as an edX learner, then enrolled in the Verified Certificate track and a Charter Oak State College credit eligible course. Then, successfully pass the course with an 80% grade or higher. By selecting the "Purchase Credit" option on your edX student dashboard, you will be brought back to this page.
Then, register your credit here at Charter Oak State College
Complete the Special Credit Registry Application. You must complete the section "Specific edX Courses Completed" and you must provide the e-mail address that you had used to complete the course taken from edX.
- For this registry, credits from one Charter Oak State College reviewed institution -- edX -- will be placed on a transcript.
- We will acknowledge your application once it has been submitted, then verify the information you provide against the course completion information provided directly from edX. In 7-10 days we will send you information on how to order your official transcript sent from Charter Oak to another institution or organization.
- Charter Oak State College is regionally accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges. The Charter Oak State College transcript will show your CCAP reviewed program as the source of the credits. If you are planning to apply these credits to a degree at another institution, you should verify that credits accumulated in the registry will be transferable.
If you are already a participant in the Special Credit Registry, see more information on how to earn credit for selected edX courses.
