Associated Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- #1. Apply healthcare informatics and technology concepts and skills to case studies and real-world situations
- #2. Calculate and assess health data and statistical data for decision making in the healthcare environment.
- #3. Develop system design and software initiatives for healthcare organizations.
- #4. Compile, conduct and create new information based the use of technology and datasets through data analytics.
Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs)
Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Identify common database terminology to appropriate definition.
- Describe the database management lifecycle and the key phases involved in each step.
- Critique sample entity-relationship diagram and recommend changes that could be made to improve database management.
- Conduct the correct calculations on healthcare data for formulas that are used in healthcare decision making.
- Investigate a real-life database issue (identified by student group) by interviewing client and generate a team report for each phase of the database development lifecycle (semester long project).
- Generate a final team report of identified database issues and proposed solution and deliver to client/professor.
- Design and present the group projects’ final presentation to the class and client(s).
- Apply basic understanding of SQL to answer real-life case study examples.
- Critique multiple healthcare system infrastructures and examine pros and cons of differing structures.
- Examine data quality issues in healthcare and pinpoint some of the greatest challenges faced by the industry.
