How to Apply to Charter Oak State College

Application Basics

STEP 1 : Complete the Application for Admission

Complete Online Admissions Application now!  The application fee of $75 (non-refundable) must be included when submitting your application.

We accept American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and E-Check for the application fee.

Note: if you are applying for a certificate, use our Online Certificate Application.

STEP 2 : Request Official Transcripts

Request that your official transcripts, test scores, and proof of certifications from all originating organizations be sent directly to Charter Oak State College, 55 Paul Manafort Drive, New Britain, CT 06053. Transcripts arriving in open envelopes, as an e-mail, or as a fax, are not considered official.

Electronic Transcript Exchange

Charter Oak State College is proud to announce its new partnerships with eSCRIP-SAFE and the National Student Clearinghouse. Charter Oak joined the eSCRIP-SAFETM Global Network and the National Student Clearinghouse as a receiver of electronic academic transcripts. Charter Oak is now able to receive transcripts from any of the participants in the networks electronically.

Visit the National Student Clearinghouse. If your institution is included as one that can send transcripts through a secure portal, have the transcripts sent to the Registrar at Charter Oak State College, jwashington@charteroak.edu.

How to obtain transcripts for certifications and exams. If you expect any of your transcripts to arrive under an alternate name (i.e. maiden name), please provide that information.

STEP 3 : Receive Acceptance & Evaluation

Once your documents have been received, your file will be reviewed. If you have already earned at least 9 credits, you will be accepted as a student. You will then receive an acceptance letter and an evaluation of your credits including how they may fit into a degree plan.

STEP 4 : Online Writing Assessment (Criterion)

The required online writing assessment will determine if a writing course is required prior to taking the REQUIRED IDS 101 Cornerstone Seminar.

Once the placement test is completed, both you and your admissions counselor will be advised of your results. Your counselor will discuss course selection and registration with you.

At that time, you may officially enroll in the college.

That's it - You're on your way to a degree!
