Scholarships
To be eligible for any of the scholarships listed below, students must be currently
matriculated at Charter Oak and be in good academic standing as defined in the College
catalog. These awards may be need-based. In addition, each scholarship has its own
specific criteria.
The John & Elizabeth Blennerhassett Scholarship
John and Elizabeth Blennerhassett are the parents of a Charter Oak State College graduate.
They are committed to the philosophy and mission of the College and have established
this named scholarship in their child's honor. This scholarship is open to working
parents who show academic promise and financial need.
The Sgt. George R. Dingwall Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Sgt. George R. Dingwall, a Charter Oak
graduate who lost his life in the line of duty as a law enforcement officer in Middletown,
CT. The scholarship is open to those employed in the field of public safety from any
geographical area in the United States, with preference given to residents of Connecticut.
The Harris-Wiener Family Scholarship
The Harris-Wiener Family Fund was established by former Charter Oak State College
President Merle W. Harris and her husband, David, in 1998, to assist low income women
who want to continue their education, particularly women wishing to pursue careers
in education, social service, public service, or non-profit. The parents of both David
and Merle Harris believed that education was the key to success and also stressed
the importance of serving others. These family values are reflected in the criteria
for this scholarship.
The Beverly and Rodney Hawes, Jr. Scholarship
The Beverly and Rodney Hawes Endowed Scholarship for "Making a Difference in Business"
was established in June of 2003. This scholarship is awarded to a Charter Oak student
who is pursuing a business concentration or an individualized studies concentration
with a business focus, who has demonstrated qualities of leadership and commitment
to community, and who is considered to possess the potential to make positive contributions
within a business environment.
The Patricelli Scholarship
This scholarship is available to a Charter Oak State College student who is a resident
of Hartford, Connecticut, is Pell Grant eligible, and is in good academic standing.
R. Wayne Clugston Scholarship
This scholarship is available to a Charter Oak State College student who is pursuing
a concentration which incorporates academic course work that will prepare them for
a defined leadership role in a service-based organization, and who is considered to
possess the potential to make positive contributions within a leadership role in their
current field of employment or in future employment settings.
Technology Grant
The Charter Oak State College Foundation Technology Grant was created in July of 2011
to financially assist students in the purchase of a prescribed list of technology
purchases that supports online learning.

Charter Oak State College Transfer Scholarship for Community College Graduates
This scholarship is awarded to an adult student who is graduating from a community
college and who has demonstrated interest and success in online learning. The student
must be nominated by an instructor, counselor, or administrator at the attending community
